FIRST IMPRESSION WARRIOR

NFC Digital Business Cards. Are they your best choice right now?

Episode/Blog Transcript

Hey, welcome to the podcast. Actually the vlog. I wanted to share with you my thoughts, as I was out for a walk the other day an thought about this. . . , I've been seeing a lot of things on Facebook, advertisements for digital business cards, which is great. But the one thing that caught my eye is there are a lot of cards coming out that are NFC based. That's near frequency communication, which is fine. But what drives me crazy is most of these folks who are advertising their cards and when you go to their website or their sales page or their funnel, whatever you want to call it, down in the bottom of the page, there's a little asterisk.  It says your phone must have NFC enabled to utilize their product. That's the challenge, may phone out there aren't automatically NFC enabled. You have to enable them yourself sometimes. So how do you go about doing that?

Well, think about this. You're going to be sharing your business card with somebody. You're going to walk up to them or you're in a networking event and you say, "Hey, let me share with you my card." Just take your phone out." Then all you need to do is just tap the button, card or whatever it is that contains the NFC chip, against the back of their phone or front of their phone and boom, there's going to be a link. You can load it. You go to do that and nothing happens. Hmm. That's not a great first impression.

So that's a problem in my opinion. Make sure before you invest in a digital business card that your phone is NFC enabled, which I'm sure we're going to see more and more of this and more and more manufacturers are going to find a way to make that NFC almost automatic. I would assume . . . kind of like the QR codes several years ago, they were available, but there was no way to read them unless you had a QR reader. Then Apple came out and created their QR reader or not created, but put their QR code reader into their camera. So when you point the camera at the QR code, boom, the link pops up and you can load the image or whatever it is that you're you're linking to. We saw more and more of that during the COVID-19 stretch, you'd go into a restaurant and they have a QR code. You point your camera at the QR code and the menu pops up. It goes to the webpage.

So my rant is, look, don't rush into this NFC thing. And unless you know your phone is going to be able to, to accept it and then check out the list of phones that have it enabled, but be careful. Most of the people I know, and I had one of these NFC cards seven years ago for our Visness Card digital business card that I was testing out and I would go to a meeting and tap somebody's phone. eight out of 10 times, they didn't even know what I was talking about. I'm not knocking the technology. It's probably going to be great. But right now, buyer beware. If you want a truly custom designed digital business card, this is my plug for the Visness Card. Like I said, there are plenty of cards out there. And the pricing goes from zero to whatever.  We're have a fair price and do the custom design work. If you look at the cards over my shoulder, those are all custom designed and that's why we charge a little more, cause it takes some more time. You can share our card by a QR code by a text via email, through social media, and a link.

If you need to know more about our cards, go here and check it out. But that's my rant for today. I appreciate you listening. . . buyer beware.  Again, I'm not knocking NFC or the companies that are offering the cards. I welcome the competition. It's great for all of us, but, I just wanted to share my thoughts on this subject matter. Thanks and have a great day.

As always, we would love to hear from your and ask that you share this episode with others who may find it of value.  Thank you and stay safe!
